The story dates back to March 2019 when I was appearing for the final exams of 9th grade. I and my friends – Victoria aka Tori, Catherine aka Katty and Samantha aka Sam, we all heaved sighs of relief the moment we walked out of the examination hall post our last exam of 9th grade. We all went to our homes, and were cheerful and happy all the time since our exams went pretty well – all the sleepless nights and the hard work we put in totally paid off. As promised to us, our parents decided to send us off for a vacation together, and we four felt grown up enough to go alone- so we asked our parents to allow us for the same. They obviously opposed this idea as we were so young, but we somehow convinced them owing to the fact that the four of us would be together throughout. Now came the most confusing and argumentative task for us – choosing the perfect place for vacation. After a bit internal conflicts, we mutually agreed to chill at Bali in Indonesia – a place we all heard of, and were longing to explore since long. Our parents booked our tickets and a complete tour package for a about a week for us through Daniel Travels – a travel agency owned by Sam’s dad. The day finally came when we had to board our flight to Bali. The check-in time was supposedly 10 am but as usual I overslept, waking up at 9.15 since I slept late the previous night – busy watching anime, and then panicked realising that I was late. I quickly got ready by 9.40 or something, and rushed to my friends’ car that was probably there for the past few minutes. We fortunately were just in time to check-in and board the flight.

After a nearly 18 hour long and tiring journey, we finally landed at the Bali airport. There was a lady named Ms. Wulan, working in a travel agency tied up with that of Daniel Travels, waiting for us at the airport, and escorted us to our hotel. I was literally so exhausted after the flight journey that I straight away headed to my room (which I was sharing with Tori) and slept for a while. My dad called me twice to know the updates, but since I was too busy sleeping, I couldn’t pick up his calls. So, he called Tori and she woke me up in a very annoying manner disrupting my peaceful sleep, but then I talked with my parents and assured them that everything was fine, and then again went to sleep. Three hours passed and I was still sleeping- so my friends got super annoyed with me and did all those awful things to wake me up – and I obviously woke up after that. I freshened up and we were all set to explore Bali. It was around 9 am and we first went to the KICC church for the morning prayers, followed by our visit to one of the biggest temples of Bali- the Besakih temple. Then we headed for Mount Agung, along with Ms. Wulan, who turned out to be a very kind and generous guide for us. The next day we visited Nyaman Gallery and also came across some friendly monkeys at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. Then we called the day off and returned to the hotel. The following day we went for sight seeing in Bali, and our guide Ms. Wulan showed us various amazing architectures and narrated many interesting stories as we continued to explore Bali. We were really tired exploring so many things, but I can’t deny the fact that we were also enjoying so much that our joy overpowered our tiredness.

On our fifth day in Bali, we went on exploring different beaches and clicking pictures there to capture the beauty and serene environment around those beaches. At one of the beaches, a thief was trying hard running, disguising and hiding himself as he was being chased by the police for stealing a small figurine embedded with gold and diamonds worth millions. As we were too engaged in enjoying ourselves and playing at that beach, the thief secretly kept the figurine in one of our handbags. When he succeeded in deceiving the police, he came out of his hiding place and started looking for the figurine. Shocked at the moment, he realized that we were gone, and so was the handbag in which he had kept the figurine. He panicked as he received a call from his gang leader asking him to bring the figurine at his den. He shivered with fear thinking how will he face his leader now, so he decided to look for us somehow and get his thing back. He kept roaming on the streets, in search of us when he found us heading towards our hotel. So, he then found out our room numbers and the next day, decided to check each of our rooms to find that bag. All of us now went out to the mall to shop stuffs for ourselves, our parents and our friends, but without our guide because she got stuck with some very urgent work, and since the mall was adjacent to our hotel, we decided to go there. And at that time, he sneaked into their rooms, and again shocked, realized that we took our handbags with us. Here in the mall, when I took out her bag to pay for a traditional Balinese handicraft at the mall, Katty saw something shiny in my bag, and notified me. Then we checked it and found a precious figurine. I, along with my friends, were astonished seeing its beauty and shimmer. We decided to immediately hand it over to the police to avoid ending up in any legal trouble, and informed the local nearby police. As soon as the thief reached the mall, he saw me holding the figurine, so he took out his gun and pointed it on me, threatening me to hand it over to him. I got scared and when I was about to hand it over to him, the police came at the perfect time and arrested the thief. I handed over the figurine to the police and went ahead shopping in the mall. I was still unable to process what ever happened, but anyways we completed our shopping and returned to our hotel.

Our guide came the next day to drop us to the airport, and when she got to know about this incident, got really concerned for us and informed our parents about the same, making them more worried for us than before. But our vacation anyway came to an end and we boarded our flights back to our home. As we were bidding adieu to Bali, all the happy memories as well as that incident were playing in my mind on loop, and we kept on discussing about our vacation throughout our flight- after all it was our first trip together and without our parents, and gave us enough time to rejuvenate and prepare ourselves for a new journey- grade 10th. It surely was an unforgettable vacation for not only me, but for all of us.
