After accepting an early-retirement buy-out package from Point Loma Nazarene University, where he served as Professor of Writing, Carl Winderl moved to Zagreb, Croatia, serving in a dual capacity as a writer and a missionary.

He earned a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from New York University and an M.A. in American Literature from the University of Chicago, after attending as an undergraduate on a basketball scholarship.

His most recent book of poems, The Gospel According...To Mary, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2021.
