| When Bill's Cessna was lost
on May 12, 2001, a two week wait began with all those whose lives Bill
had touched. Our lives were suspended as we all prayed that he would come out of this last challenge safely,
as he had done so often before.
But two weeks later Bill's plane was found and we knew that he would never again teach us or give us his ready smile. We all must die, but few of us are likely to be honored by so many and so sincerely as was Bill. There were three memorial services prior to the final one in the gymnasium of the downtown YMCA, attended by over 200 of Bill's former students, friends, and family. Richard Loller
