Drawing of a pyramid with a treasure inside.

My life has changed significantly.

One afternoon while shopping at a bookstore I happened upon a magazine with personal ads. Dennis’ ad captured my attention.

BLOND AND BLUE-EYED, N/S, D/W/M, professional, seeks W/F, 25-40. I am 36, 6’1”, 225 and have a husky athletic build. I have two non-live in children. I consider myself to be nice looking, humorous, intelligent, kind, honest, sensitive and sensual. My interests are: movies, music, sporting events, kids, hugging and kissing, travel, cooking, cuddling, dining out and quiet times at home. I would like to meet someone to share similar interests and also share new experiences. Dennis (415) 982-7128. HAYWARD

I phoned him and left a message. He phoned back that evening and together we talked an hour and a half.

Dennis drove three hours to meet me at a hotel near my house. After brief introductions we walked into the bar for drinks. We talked for hours as we watched the sun go down. He asked if I had any plans for dinner.

I knew he liked seafood and suggested one of my favorite restaurants. It sounded good to him. We drove to my house so he could drop off his car.

At dinner he shared details of his horrible marriage, painful divorce and that he would never marry again. I mentioned my marriages; and now pending divorce. The fog rolled in and visibility was difficult.

Driving back to my house along the ocean made him uneasy because his fear of heights. At one point he held onto my arm and said a prayer. Here we were two strangers and our fates were in the hands of God. The drive brought us closer together.

The next day we kissed goodbye. If nothing happens romantically we would stay friends.

We continued to see each other. Our friendship grew deeper over the months.

I had planned a trip to Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti to celebrate my divorce. Dennis had vacation time accrued at work. He decided to meet me in Tahiti at a later date. We spent eight days exploring Tahiti and the islands of Bora Bora and Moorea. At that time we discussed living together in the Bay area.

New Year’s Eve he surprised me with concert tickets to see Stevie Ray Vaughn. While the other bands played we sat and listened in the back of the auditorium. Before it was Stevie’s turn to play we got up and found a spot in front of the auditorium.

Stevie came out dressed in a black embroidered western shirt. A colorful feather decorated his hat. Playing his guitar the music just flowed. He seemed to be in his own world. Every song he performed was from his heart. Midnight color balloons fell from the ceiling and Stevie continued to play. Dennis whispered in my ear, “I love you, Zooey. Will you marry me?”

Stunned, I answered, “Yes.

I have been happily married to Dennis for fourteen years. We have a loving devoted female cat named Squeaky.  I live in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and spend my winter months writing short stories and poems. This winter I am busy writing a suspenseful intriguing novel and a collection of short stories. I volunteer once a week for three hours at Hospice Thrift Store. Also, I am a mentor. My interests include: reading, gardening, traveling and collecting seashells, magnets, interesting picture frames, wind chimes and souvenir spoons. I have a B.S. degree in nutrition and believe strongly in taking care of my health with proper nutrition, exercise and meditation.  My family and friends are very important to me.
